Brisa's New York Marathon

Brisa's in New York working very hard on putting the final touches on the next album. It's one she's producing on her own and she says it feels like it almost killed her, but she knows it's going to be worth it. She used words like "psychedelic" and "one of the best records in the whole world". She sounds deeply devoted to and worn out from making this album- but it's also obviously feeding her pride in it. I'm as curious as I'm sure you are to hear it. I asked her for a little snippet - but, we're going to have to wait just a bit longer.

It's been pretty quiet at brisaroche.com lately, as Brisa is holed up finishing her new album. Luckily, fan Pierre Vaillant has sent me some great pictures of his, from one of her recent live shows. They were shot on Halloween at the El Mediator in Perpignan, S. France. Let's all give him a big round of applause!

Nice little interview w/ Brisa from Harp Magazine here.

For those asking me to post a link to Brisa's new album... not going to happen. She's just now in the process of recording it. It'll be awhile until it's ready for release. But, be assured that I'll be the first to let you know when it is! - Mike

Brisa's just told me she's in the S. French country side ("overgrown with grapes & trees") backed by her tour band recording the new album. It's being captured as a live in-studio set, which she recently wrote when she went home to Arcata Ca., USA. The album session at this point consists of 17 tracks and is "very 'back to my roots' and organic". Here's hoping we hear it, soon.

Brisa's album comes out in "The States" tommorow". Stop by your local independent record store and pick one up. You know you want to.

With Brisa's album hitting our shores officially, on Tuesday - it's quite apropos that her hometown get the U.S. Media ball rolling. Click photo for the Arcata Times-Standard article.

Have I fallen asleep at the wheel? Apparently. Turns out while I was sleeping, Brisa's 'Mystery Man' EP was released domestically. It's got 2 really nice non-album tracks; 'Du Bout Des Yeux' and 'Summer Surprise', the latter in English - it's officially the song of summer 2006. You can really hear her fine-tuned jazz chops on this track. (And it suddenly gave me a craving for some Peggy Lee for some strange reason). - Mike

Somebody stole Brisa's stuff. On tour in France, her bus was broken into and her precious things taken. She's not a rich girl, she's not swimming in luxury - she's a fucking musician. So, if you've heard anything about her stuff being peddled anywhere, please let us know. She'd just like to get her personal things back. She's in N.Y. to play several shows, it's not cheap there.
B doesn't need her material things to appreciate being there, though. She's excited about the shows, about the soundtrack she's working on and wearing hot pants for a photo shoot, recently.
Drop by her myspace profile and leave her a message of encouragement. She's ready to record a 2nd album. Let her know you're ready to hear it.

A very cool band called "Watoo Watoo" attended B's show at
Angouleme on March, 4th and took some pics!
Please,
check out Watoo Watoo (I think they're the coolest Euro-fit since 'Portishead')- as well as the pics. Also, if you're in NY, you're in luck..

Happy Birthday, Brisa!
Today is her 32nd Birthday, go ahead and leave her a birthday wish in the comments!

Bastien was kind enough to bring these photos to my attention (via the RTL2 pop-up-hell website) from the April 14th festival in Lille! This'll save you the time of having to navigate it to find them.
Bastien (one of the biggest fans I've heard from) said:
"I saw Brisa in a wonderful show in lille... It was very good because she is very natural on stage!!"

Brisa's doing 4 New York shows!

May 15th, 16th & June 5th at The Living Room

and then on June 13th at Joe's Pub, opening for Susheela Raman!

Got an email from B. the other day. As usual, it's cryptic & full of hidden information. Here's the distilled version:

- "The show Monday was fun, full up. I didn't talk much but danced in slo-mo like a space queen while Erik truffaz played reverby horn. Feel like it's the start of a real "band" first time in so so long."

- "Worried about leaving so soon to NYC, but at least we tour first together, birthday show in Italy!"
Who's birthday? Brisa's? New York? The new Franco-American Invasion begins. Sounds like she's gearing up for a worldwide tour to show off the re-tooled album for the States & some of Europe. If there's any more info, you know I'll have it.

Most recent news:

B's recently worked on some material
with Nick Zinner from
the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

She's auditioning drummers
& keyboard musicians for
future work.

She's recorded a
"radiophonique" version of
"Dans le Vert de Ses Yeux".

And she's made a blueberry pie.

First Girl

When this yokel comes maundering,
Whetting his hacker,
I shall run before him,
Diffusing the civilest odors
Out of geraniums and unsmelled flowers.
It will check him.

Second Girl
I shall run before him,
Arching cloths besprinkled with colors
As small as fish-eggs.
The threads
Will abash him.

Third Girl
Oh, la...le pauvre!
I shall run before him,
With a curious puffing.
He will bend his ear then.
I shall whisper
Heavenly labials in a world of gutturals.
It will undo him.

Brisa's official site is up and running again, quite an improvement on it's former self. It's got some of the best flash navigation I've seen in awhile. There are a lot of beautiful photos, including some great shots from the Mondino set.
(thanks Caetla!)

Could Breese's official site be opening soon, after a long hiatus? There's been enough activity that it's been flagged in google & the site in inaccessible...

I asked brisa about the show on the 20th at the café de la danse...
It was great! Except I went over time, and the sound laws are strict and so I got in big trouble and couldn't do the last song. (I) was yanked off stage and wailed like a two year old but then went back on and did an acoustic song, all by myself, softly while still kind of crying - it was all pretty intense.

Sorry i missed it!

Well, it's been awhile since my last post, because there hasn't been much movement over here in the states. Brisa's pretty busy gearing up for her set of dates in France, so I haven't heard from her in a while. I did find this today - a UK release date for the cd - on a website for what looks to be a pretty cool magazine - "Wears The Trousers" - an extensive periodical/blog/site about women in music - and the latest issue features Rosie Thomas - (conicidentally, Rosie & I attended the same arts college, while Brisa & I played music, here in Seattle). Rosie's got an amazing ouvre and I suggest everyone check her out - she does an..unusual comic routine, which I've been dying to see since I'd read about it .

Hope you caught Brisa on TVMonde5, last night! Brisa says she had a very good time - apparently it's a talk show shot in a bar. She was accompanied by writer Samuel Benchetrit, again, performed a new song called "Palace Eyes" & signed autographs for fans - a quick night's sleep, got on the plane in Toulouse and headed back to Paris. In case some of you didn't get the joke - she will not be playing at "Dan's Café" - it translates from the French to: "Café of the dance", which makes even less sense.
She's looking forward to the show on the 20th, as apparently some of you are, too. Send me a pic @ mattereaterlad@earthlink.net & I'll post the best ones. I won't be responding to anonymous comments, sorry.

On Feb. 20th, Brisa will be doing a solo show in Paris at The cafe de la danse, which I believe means "Dan's Coffee". To reserve a spot and avoid a really obnoxious site with pop-ups and an out of date flash interface (not because it's in a foreign language, but because it's tedious, more style than substance & slow) go to: www.fnacspectacles.com.

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

I asked Brisa about her FNAC appearance which another anonymous poster mentioned - having no idea what it was - "Yeah...I'm gonna do five or six shows at different FNAC stores in France, by myself, just me with my Destroyer, my amp and a mic on a little stage.. I guess they'll just last half an hour or so. The one in Paris is at the fancy FNAC. Then...Lyon and Toulouse...I'll have the schedule on Friday." I assume it'll be a signing, too. If you can attend, send us some pics to post & tell B you heard about it here.

Update: Brisa won't have a proper in-store performance schedule for a while. I will post it as soon as it's available to her. If you hear anything out there (as we've seen, sometime's you're always the last to know), drop us a line.

An anonymous poster (thanks!)
put this link to B's InRocks video
interview
in the last post comments,
I thought I'd highlight it
- it's in French, but
pretty fun for us yankees,
nonetheless.
It features some of
the recording sessions
for 'The Chase' and Brisa
jogging, for some reason.
Maybe she's practicing her
'Hard Days Night' escapes.
